SA superstar Steve Hofmeyr

SA superstar Steve Hofmeyr boasts sales close to two million copies of his multi-platinum albums. His 19th offering, Waarmaker (Truth Maker) has been certified platinum on release.

Says Steve: “This CD is about my hopes and dreams. I wish for all folk the good things to stay and for the less good to disappear. It is a collection of songs, filled with faith and reasons why we can’t always fulfil all our own deepest wishes.”

Steve is at ease as a songwriter. “I don’t stress anymore...No worries about what I want to sing, what I want to cover or what I want to leave out.” The album captures compassion and spiritual earnestness. Amongst the work displayed is Steve’s adaptation of St. Elmo’s Fire; with Afrikaans lyrics: God se Bedelaar (God’s Beggar).

This is a very personal, focussed Contemporary Gospel composition.
“I had to use this magical melody; it’s been a favourite since my teenage days and it lends itself to something majestic.” The result is nothing soppy soft-soaping; it’s full-on hard-hitting truth.

Capturing hope, Steve delivers the songs Adore and Storybook Story (with soaring vocal colouring by Claire Johnston of Mango Groove). Steve’s rendering of the timeless song Dedication focuses on his vocal ability and heart-felt performance. Life, however, is no fairytale. The only fun songs included is Die Donkie Song
(The Donkey Song) and Steve’s dance rendering of Amarillo (show me the way).

Steve’s writing ability shines on the bittersweet musical character sketch indgat de Klerk - in duet with former 7de Laan star Denver Vraagom: a truthful portrayal of Coloured dialect, polished with that rhythmic 6/8 beat of the Sixties and The Flames. This is close dance material! The love ballad gets a beat in the song Hermanus; tongue in cheek autobiographical honesty. He celebrates love in the song Verjaar (Birthday) and hope that never wanes in the songs: Sê Nou (What if?), Daai Blerrie Droom (That Damn Dream) en My Droom Die (This Is My Dream).

Once again, the production – in cooperation with award-winning producer Kevin Kruger - captures the huge Steve Hofmeyr sound; this time around even more rock anchored, featuring the vocals and guitar work of rocker Andries Botha. The recording of the latest series of the ever popular kykNET series Dis Hoe Dit is met Steve (The Way It Is with Steve) has just been completed, and Steve is ready to hit the road with his national ABSA Waarmaker Tour – backed with a full rock band.

A Steve Hofmeyr show is synonymous with surprises, excitement, unpredictable twists and innovation. The album Waarmaker offers Steve’s natural skills as poetic songwriter, as well as versatile vocalist. A total of 180 of his self-penned songs have been recorded – by himself and other artists. This is Steve Hofmeyr’s CD Waarmaker: a musical journey of love, dreams and hope! It leaves you pondering. Happiness waits.
